Bharat Tex 2025: Bharat Tex 2025, the second edition of the mega global textile event, was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. He emphasized India’s growing prominence in the global textile industry. The event, which has become a key platform for policymakers, CEOs, and industry leaders worldwide, showcases India’s textile heritage while fostering international collaboration.
During his speech, PM Modi noted the participation of over 120 countries, providing Indian exhibitors with unparalleled exposure to global markets. He highlighted that Bharat Tex is significantly boosting investments, exports, and overall growth in the textile sector.
India’s Textile Growth and Global Standing
PM Modi revealed that India’s textile and apparel exports saw a 7% increase last year, making the country the world’s sixth-largest exporter. He set a target to increase exports from ₹3 lakh crore to ₹9 lakh crore by 2030. Foreign investment in the textile sector has also doubled over the last decade, contributing 11% to India’s manufacturing sector.
Strengthening MSMEs and the Skilled Workforce
Recognizing the contribution of MSMEs, which account for 80% of the textile sector, PM Modi highlighted government initiatives, including Mission Manufacturing and expanded credit availability, to support small businesses. He also emphasized the importance of a skilled workforce, with efforts like the Samarth scheme and National Centres of Excellence aiding talent development.
Preserving Handloom Craftsmanship Amidst Technology Advancements
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining the authenticity of handloom craftsmanship in the era of modern technology. The India-handmade e-commerce platform has registered thousands of brands, while GI tagging is helping preserve India’s traditional textiles.
Promoting Sustainability and Upcycling in Fashion
PM Modi highlighted the global shift toward Fashion for Environment and Empowerment, positioning India as a leader in sustainable textiles. With the rise of fast fashion waste, India’s textile sector is turning challenges into opportunities by leveraging traditional skills in textile recycling and upcycling. He announced an MoU between the Textile Ministry, the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises, and e-Marketplace to promote upcycling, with pilot projects already underway in cities like Navi Mumbai and Bangalore.
Encouraging Innovation and Startups in Textiles
Reaffirming India’s commitment to innovation, PM Modi praised the Textile Startup Grand Challenge, inviting young entrepreneurs to develop sustainable solutions. He encouraged collaboration with IITs to develop new tools and technologies for the textile sector.
Global Engagement and Future Vision
PM Modi shared insights from his recent visit to Paris, where India and France discussed sustainable fashion collaborations. He underlined that India’s textile sector, which played a crucial role in the nation’s past prosperity, will be instrumental in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Bharat Tex 2025 – A Mega Global Textile Event
Bharat Tex 2025, held from February 14-17, is one of the largest global textile events, bringing together the entire textile value chain. The event features exhibitions, innovation pavilions, startup pitch fests, and conferences with participation from over 5000 exhibitors and 6000 international buyers from 120+ countries.
Prominent global textile bodies, including the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), EURATEX, and the US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA), are also part of the event.
With India’s textile sector poised for exponential growth, PM Modi expressed confidence that Bharat Tex will continue to set new benchmarks in global textile excellence.
