Global Hyperloop Competition: The first-ever Global Hyperloop Competition in Asia, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, successfully concluded, marking a significant milestone in futuristic transportation innovation. The event celebrated groundbreaking advancements in Hyperloop technology, with young innovators showcasing cutting-edge solutions for next-generation mobility.
Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, virtually attended the closing ceremony. In his address, he reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering innovation through strategic collaboration between Indian Railways and academic institutions. Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of technological progress, he highlighted the importance of such partnerships in accelerating India’s leadership in global transportation advancements.
IIT Madras Director Shri V. Kamakoti, speaking from Rail Bhawan, welcomed participants and underscored the competition’s objectives. The event recognized top-performing teams with prestigious awards, including the Best Demonstration Team Award, Demonstration of Braking & Traction System, and Best in Sub-System (Mechanical). Shri Vaishnaw commended the achievements of these young innovators, stating that their success reflects India\’s growing prowess in science and engineering.
Highlighting India’s rapid technological progress, Shri Vaishnaw noted that IIT Madras played a crucial role in the world’s fastest 5G rollout. Continuing this legacy, Indian Railways and IIT Madras will now collaborate on a Vertical Take-Off & Landing (VTOL) Vehicle project, funded by Indian Railways, to drive modern advancements in mobility and transportation.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Railway Board Chairman & CEO Shri Satish Kumar. The 422-meter-long Hyperloop test track at IIT Madras, Chennai, stands as a testament to the strong partnership between Indian Railways and the education sector, paving the way for groundbreaking railway innovations and futuristic travel solutions.
