Odisha Pharma Summit 2025: Odisha will be positioned as a major pharmaceutical destination in Eastern India through quality product manufacturing and the development of advanced medical devices, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Today.
Addressing the Odisha Pharma Summit 2025, organised at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister said, “The state government remains committed to creating an industry-friendly environment and non-traditional areas of growth for Odisha in the industrial sector.”
In total, 45 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹6,263 crore were signed in the presence of the Chief Minister, which will result in the creation of 38,406 jobs in the state. These MoUs include 32 from the pharmaceutical domain, 12 MoUs in medical devices, and one from the proposed landmark industrial park.
The occasion witnessed the launching of the Odisha Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Policy 2025 and the foundation stone laying ceremony of Pharma Park and Medical Devices Park in Khurda.
Inaugurating the event, CM Shri Majhi stated that the Odisha region is soon becoming one of the most preferred destinations for investments in the country because of its conducive industry environment. “We have plans to develop Odisha into a major production center for medicines and other sectors,” he said.
He said: “Metal, mineral, and chemicals constitute the spine of industries in Odisha, but now it is focusing on infrastructure, innovation, and a knowledge-driven economy. In the past one-and-a-half years, there has been a lot of diversification in industries in Odisha. It has attracted investments in chemicals, petrochemicals, green energy, fintech, electronics, semiconductors, textiles, and tourism. “Today, a new beginning has been made in the pharma industry,” he said.
Enumerating recent reforms brought about by different policies, Chief Minister asserted that Odisha’s Pharma policy is one of the finest in the country and that it focuses on research and development, investment, infrastructure, and job creation. Further, he was hopeful that Odisha’s Pharma and Med-tech products will be known worldwide for quality and competitiveness in the coming years.
Giving emphasis to the strengths of the state, CM Shri Majhi said that Odisha holds ample mineral resources, three major ports, two commercial airports, a 575 km coastline, excellent rail and road networks, surplus power generation capacity, ample water resources, and a highly skilled workforce. “Odisha is ready to become the manufacturing hub of east India,” he said.
“The Odisha Pharma Summit 2025 demonstrates Odisha’s approach to development-driven industrialization. With progressive policies, exclusive industrial parks, and qualified human resources, the state is devising an ideal ambience for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers,” said Sampada Chandra Swain, Minister for Industry & Skill Development.
The persons who attended the meeting include Durga Prasanna Nayak, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and Development Commissioner Anu Garg. Additional Chief Secretary, Industry Department Hemant Sharma unfurled the welcome address, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Ashwathi S, Commissioner and Secretary, Health Department.
