Odisha Rural Development Works: Priti Ranjan Ghadai, Minister, Rural Development reviewed various schemes under the Rural Development Department in a meeting attended by engineers and officers. Presiding over the meeting held at Bhubaneswar, Minister Shri Ghadai said that construction of roads, bridges and buildings is the responsibility of the Department and these must be completed within stipulated timeframe.

Saying that departmental engineers are accountable for delay in the completion of the projects and on the quality and standard of the works, Sri Ghadai indicated that strict action will be taken against the contractor or the implementing farms in this regard. It was decided in the meeting to expedite incomplete construction works under Biju Setu Yojana by the end of this year.  Similarly, Chief Engineers and Senior Engineers were directed to prepare a list of all the ongoing projects and submit these to the department as well as for regular monitoring of the projects.

Problems and solutions for construction of roads and bridges were discussed while use of technology and  new knowledge in order to the quality of concrete roads was emphasised. The departmental Engineers were advised to speed up the progress of the works such as Mukhyamantri Sadak yojana, Biju Setu Yojana, Pradhanmantri Gramya Sadak Yojana along with construction of buildings in time bound manner. Quality must not be compromised, it was urged.

At the outset, Sri Sanjay Kumar Singh Principal Secretary of the department presented a detailed briefing about all the schemes under the department and said that all the schemes implemented last year have been completed and 80 percent of the budget allocation has been spent which is more encouraging.

He directed all the officials to ensure that 100 percent of the budgetary provision be spent in the current financial year in completing various projects in time. Shri Singh also emphasized on maintaining the quality of roads under Mukhya mantri Sadak Yojana and asked the engineers to be sincere in fulfilling the quarterly target for the construction of roads and bridges.

All Divisional Engineers, Circle Engineers, Engineers-in-Chief, Chief Engineers along with Special Secretary of the Department were present.
