TATA ev steps up India’s charging infrastructure to 4 Lakh charging points

TATA ev

TATA ev, the pioneer of India’s Electric Vehicle (EV) revolution, today announced a bold, groundbreaking initiative to rapidly transform the country’s charging infrastructure. Having successfully sold over 200,000 EVs, TATA.ev has accelerated its commitment to make EVs more accessible to the masses and to have 400,000 charging points by 2027, more than double the current number.

Since 2019, TATA.ev has been at the forefront of its efforts to expand India’s EV charging infrastructure. First, it has launched seamless domestic/home charging solutions in partnership with Tata Group companies and will then roll out public charging infrastructure in and around cities with high EV usage, providing individuals with key support and incentives to quickly switch to EVs.

To accelerate the next growth phase, TATA.ev launched its ‘Open Partnership’ model in 2023, forging planned partnerships with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). The partnership aims to expand charging infrastructure on major transport routes, such as national highways where long journeys are required. As a result, the number of public charging points in India has more than doubled to over 18,000 charging points in just 15 months.

The impact of all these efforts by TATA.ev includes the installation of over 1.5 lakh home chargers, 2,500 community chargers and 750 chargers at TATA dealerships in over 200 cities. And now, to maximize the potential of EV adoption in India, charging infrastructure needs to grow exponentially and at a rapid pace. With over 5 billion km of road network across the country, TATA.ev has taken a look at the needs of EV users and has also identified the areas where charging infrastructure is most needed.

Through ‘Open Collaboration 2.0’, TATA.ev is committed to accelerating India’s EV charging ecosystem with a lofty goal: to install over 400,000 charging points in the next two years, more than double the current number. To achieve this goal, TATA.ev is strengthening its partnerships with leading Charging Point Operators (CPOs) to install 30,000 new public charging points.

These charging stations will support all EV types and brands, ensuring expanded accessibility and a win-win environment for all EV users, charging point operators, and infrastructure planners. A wide and easily accessible network of public, community and private/home chargers will meet the increasing demand and ensure pollution-free mobility, increase public adoption of EVs and accelerate India’s efforts towards a green, sustainable future.
