Who is Rajiv Kumar ?

Rajiv Kumar has been a key figure at Tata Steel, serving as Vice President of Operations at the Kalinganagar plant. His tenure with Tata Steel began in 1990 when he joined as a Graduate Engineer Trainee after completing his B.Sc. in Metallurgy from BIT Sindri, Dhanbad.

Over the years, Mr. Kumar held multiple leadership roles across various functions within the organization. Notably, he served as Chief of Tata Steel’s Wires Division from 2010, where he oversaw the diversification of the division’s portfolio to meet the majority of the automotive industry’s needs. He also spearheaded the project to double production of Tata Steel’s Hot Strip Mill at Jamshedpur to 4 million tonnes.

In 2014, Mr. Kumar took on the role of Vice President, Operations at Tata Steel Kalinganagar. Under his leadership, the Kalinganagar plant experienced one of the quickest ramp-ups of a greenfield steel plant in the history of the Indian steel industry. He also oversaw the launch of over 200 new steel grade products to cater to changing market needs.
