Bhubaneswar AIIMS study brings cheers for Covid care

Bhubaneswar: A study conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar on use of Ivermectin drug in treatment of Covid-19 has brought cheers for the countless people living in panic for the ongoing global pandemic.

The study has revealed that application of the drug has resulted in 73 per cent reduction of infection among healthcare workers.

 

As per AIIMS Director Gitanjali Batmanabane, two-dose Ivermectin prophylaxis at a dose of 300 micro gram per one-kilogram body weight with a gap of 72 hours was associated with 73 pc reduction of Covid-19 infection among the health care workers of AIIMS.

The study was conducted by 12 doctors of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar to examine the impact of Ivermectin prophylaxis on Covid-19 infection between September 20 and October 19.

Ivermectin is one among the many potential drugs explored for treatment of corona virus.

The study was conducted on two groups of health care workers. While one set was administered with two doses of Ivermectin in a gap of 72 hours, the other took other prophylaxis. As many as 372 including doctors, nurses, paramedics and sanitisation workers were covered under the study, the Director informed.

As per ICMR guidelines, hydroxychloroquine was prescribed to be used by the health care workers of AIIMS since April 11. However, Ivermectin showed better results, the study revealed.

“Ivermectin has a proven safety profile as a safe drug which has been used for many decades.” the Director added.
