BHUBANESWAR: Featuring several eminent artistes, city-based Tridhara Odissi dance institution will host the 14th Guru Debaprasad Award Festival at Rabindra Mandap here commencing on Saturday.
The three-day festival is hosted in memory of late Odissi legend Debaprasad Das, one of the founder fathers of the dance form.
The festival has been conceptualised and curated by Odissi dance exponent Gajendra Panda, disciple of the late legend, who heads host Tridhara.
Celebrated singer Anup Jalota – popularly known as the Bhajan Samrat – will be conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award during the inaugural evening. The award carries a cash award of Rs.one lakh, angavastra and memento.
Jalota is scheduled to perform during the evening.
The second evening of the event would be a focus on Odissi music with concerts by three veterans – Shyamamani Debi, Gopal Chandra Panda and Damodar Hota.
The concluding evening will witness Guru Debaprasad Award presentation ceremony followed by performances by the three eminent awardees – Aruna Mohanty (Odissi dance), Ghanakanta Bora (Sattriya dance) and Gopika Varma (Mohiniattam dance).
Each of the awardees will receive a memento, an angavastra and a cash award of Rs. 50,000.
