Odisha Police gets Special Wing for safety of women and six new police stations

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Police would have a Special Wing to deal with offences against women and children.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced this while addressing the valedictory session of the 62nd Senior Police Officers’ Conference on Wednesday.

“Crime against women and children remains our focus area. I announce the creation of a special wing in Odisha Police to look after offences against women and children,” the Chief Minister stated.

He further hoped that the special wing would provide quality services for women and children.

Expressing his concern over low conviction rates, the CM stated, “All possible steps should be taken to enhance conviction rates by factoring in modern technology into the investigation”.

In a bid to strengthen the police service, six new police stations were inaugurated on the occasion for Angul Sadar, Bharatpur in Bhubaneswar, Sadar police station in Jharsuguda, Belaguntha in Ganjam, Sabrang and Pirahat in Bhadrak district.

The State Government also sanctioned 905 additional posts under various ranks as per the directive of the Chief Minister to mark the occasion.
