BHUBANESWAR: As per the promise of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for expansion of state-run quality health-care across Odisha, his Government has decided to set up medical colleges in the temple towns of Puri and Jajpur.

While Puri will have a 600-bed government medical college and hospital, Jajpur will have a 500-bed medical college and hospital.

The two projects would cost the state exchequer about Rs.651.10 crore.

A private construction company would be roped in to complete the projects within three years.

Earlier on December 9, the Government announced its plans to set up state-run medical college and hospital in Kandhamal and a 650-bed teaching hospital for the existing medical college in Koraput.

The minister said the BJD government has added six state-run medical colleges in the last two decades.

The Naveen Patnaik led BJD government has added six state-run medical colleges during its two-decade-old tenure. Odisha had just three such institutions earlier.
