Konark: The fourth day of the ongoing Konark Festival on Friday offered a befitting tribute to the warriors of the Indian Navy and of The Mahabharat as well.
December 4 being celebrated as the Navy Day, the artists of the Sand Art Festival on Chandrabhaga beach here offered their apt salutation to the Indian Navy through their sculptures.
On December 4 in 1971, during Operation Trident of Indo-Pak War, the Indian Navy had sunk four Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar killing hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel while no loss of life was caused to Indian defence personnel. Since then, the day is observed as The Navy Day, it was learnt.
The theme of Navy Day 2020 has been “Indian Navy Combat Ready, Credible & Cohesive” and the sand artists attempted to depict the theme.
While the Sand Art Festival celebrated the glorious Naval forces of India, the exclusive male dancers’ ensemble of Bhubaneswar-based Rudrakshya Foundation portrayed the valiant spirit of the mythical warriors of The Mahabharat through their powerful presentation of the Odissi dance production ‘Chakrabyuha’.
The fabulous male dancers of Rudrakshya Foundation stormed the stage, literally, while staging the dance drama.
The dance festival also featured group Kathak presentation by Ranan troupe from Kolkata.
Invited by host Odisha Tourism, Konark Sahitya Sansad hosted a poetry recitation session during the day.
