Bhubaneswar: In a move to make women aware of the real Durga in them and identify the ‘shakti’ within, city-based “We, The Road Queens” social awareness forum hosted a unique event coinciding with the ongoing Durga Puja.
Dressed as Durga, Sangeeta Sahoo from “We, the Road Queens” group took a 300-kilometre road ride on a bike from Shikharchandi in Bhubaneswar to Biraja Pitha in Jajpur and returned to Shikharchandi in her Durga avatar.
The principal objective of the ride was to raise voice against violence on women, urging them identify the ‘shakti’ in them and to stand up for their own self and self-defence as well, the organisers of the special show said.
Shiksha (education) and shakti (power) within are the two main weapons a woman needs to use for fighting the evils of society, they pointed out.
This event was also a fund raiser ride for one such victim of atrocities on women, they informed.
An acid attack survivor from Balasore, Namita Jee received a cheque of Rs. 25,000 raised from the public donation through crowd funding, they added.
The special guest for the occasion was Kasturi Mahapatra, former Chairperson of POSCO who promised further help for Namita.
