KOLKATA: With Bangladesh in focus, the 45th edition of International Kolkata Book Fair will be underway during July this year.
The decision and details of the grand event were announced by the Publishers & Booksellers Guild of Kolkata that hosts the fair.
“2021 is the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It is also the 50th year of the independence of Bangladesh. The International Kolkata Book Fair 2021 will be dedicated to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee year of independence of Bangladesh”, the hosts stated.
The 125th birth-year of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Birth Centenary of Satyajit Ray will also be celebrated during the fair, they added.
“Many literary and eminent personalities like Soumitra Chatterjee, Pranab Mukherjee, Anisujjaman, Debesh Roy, Nimai Bhattacharya, Manabendra Bandyopadhyay, Alokeranjan Dasgupta, Swapan Mazumdar and others departed in 2020. We will pay our homage to them at the fair”, the hosts announced.
In view of the upcoming Assembly election and the school and college examinations, the Guild decided to defer the dates of the fair to July, it was learnt.
The Central Park Mela Ground in Salt Lake will be the venue of the event.
“We expect that the international flights will be in operation by that time and the Fair will have international participants like the earlier years”, the hosts hoped.
Intending publishers, booksellers, editors of Little Magazines and other participants of the 45th International Kolkata Book Fair 2021, may submit applications at the Guild House from 1 March 2021 onwards, they invited.
The added attraction of the International Kolkata Book Fair will be the 8th Kolkata Literature Festival scheduled to be hosted during the fair, they mentioned.
