Chhattisgarh claims two National Awards for water conservation and management

Raipur: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has added yet another feather to his colourful cap of achievements with Chhattisgarh bagging two National Awards for most effective water conservation and management.

The National Water Awards for the year 2019 will be conferred on two districts of Chhattisgarh – Bilaspur and Surajpur – for conservation, promotion and revival of water sources, Union Ministry of Jal Shakti sources revealed.

The double honour have been achieved through the ambitious Narva Development Project under direct guidance of the Chief Minister.

Aptly, the central Government will honour CM Baghel with the awards in a special ceremony slated to be hosted at the national capital in November.

The constant renovation and groundwater augmentation projects being conducted under the Narva program, within the past two years, have finally born the fruitful results for their constant and tiring efforts.

Among all the districts of the country, Bilaspur stood first under the revival of river category while Surajpur topped the table in water conservation category.

The Narva Development Project of Chhattisgarh Government has been in limelight for its speedy and effective conservation and promotion of a large number of rivers and drains throughout the state.

The scheme has ensured availability of drinking water, development of irrigation resources and recharging groundwater, thereby revitalising the rural economy.
