The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) have come together to set up India’s National Tribal Research Institute in New Delhi soon.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda has announced that an agreement has been signed between the Ministry and IIPA to set up the premier institute on IIPA premises.

The agreement was the outcome of the just concluded two-day National Tribal Research Conclave in the national capital hosted by the Ministry in association with IIPA.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs is funding 26 Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) across the country to undertake for research in collaboration with reputed government and Non-Government Organizations, the conclave revealed.

Setting up of the National Tribal Research Institute on IIPA campus would help in better coordination and management among TRIs and would go a long way in improving tribal research resulting in evidence-based planning and development of tribal areas across the country, the Minister maintained.

The Minister emphasised on developing village level livelihood framework by TRIs and Centre of Excellences (CoEs) – the partner agencies of TRIs – so that villagers can understand world’s demand and the people can be offered training on e-commerce, brand management and product marketing.

TRIs and CoEs should take up impact assessment of every tribal dominated village to develop perspective action plans for every district, block and village with special emphasis on development of primitive tribal groups, he stressed.

The Minister called upon dedicated officials of the districts to come forward and adopt a tribal village to ensure its speedy and holistic development.

About 120 participants across the country including State Tribal Welfare Ministers, State Tribal Welfare Secretaries, TRI Directors, CoEs along with officers of Ministry and IIPA attended the conclave.
