Mumbai, Reena Kapoor has been a part of the industry for more than a decade. She is known for a variety of roles that mostly lean towards calm and positive characteristics. She is currently seen as Ranju in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan where she plays a mother who raises 4 daughters single-handedly in this patriarchal society. Her fans have loved all the characters she has donned. While she loves and also relates to the characters she chooses, she is open to play some meaty grey-shaded characters.
“Playing a negative character will definitely be a challenge for me as people don’t really expect that out of me. But I would love to experiment with some grey-shaded characters.” Her co-star Deepshikha Nagpal, who plays the second wife to Ranju’s husband (Ayub Khan), has a very cunning and manipulative character who could do anything to save her husband from going back to his first wife.
When asked if she would be open to playing a character like Lalita, Reena says, “I love experimenting with my roles and I don’t think I will be very uncomfortable playing such a character. As a performer, everyone plays a particular character differently and so would I. But I believe, Deepshikha is portraying Lalita’s character very well.”
Reena’s current character Ranju is not a very well-educated female but has created her path on her own and has raised her daughters very well. She is very soft-spoken and has never raised her voice even though her husband Guddu Ji does something that isn’t acceptable.
When asked if it has ever wanted to make her choose a pitch that could not be in line with her character and more in line with her personal take of the situation, Reena said, “So far in the show, Ranju has not spoken back to Guddu in louder pitch. In real life also I believe one can convey the displeasure without raising his her volume.”
Ranju’s character is being adored by the audience and we can’t wait to see what more Reena Kapoor has to bring to the table.
