Causing much cheers for the Indian film industry, Bengali film Robibar claimed two awards at the Madrid International Film Festival.

The film has been directed by Atanu Ghosh. Celebrated actor Prosenjit Chatterjee has been cast opposite popular Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan as the lead pair in the film.

The film was released in theatres across West Bengal during December last year followed by its release in Bangladesh in February this year.

“Two more coveted awards for Robibar (On a Sunday) from Madrid International Film Festival 2020 – Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film for Jaya Ahsan and Best Original Screenplay – in the same category,” the director announced on social media.

Jaya won the coveted award from among 18 others nominated for the Best Lead Actress category.

“In a prestigious foreign film festival, I was adjudged as the best among so many formidable female actors. This was possible as you (director Atanu Ghosh) etched out such a character. The lion’s share of the contribution is yours,” the actress acknowledged.

Ghosh described Jaya as an instinctive actress “who would give shots in a style which is unconventional and natural”.

The director has also bagged the ‘Best Director and Best Writing Awards’ for the film at the Critics’ Choice Film Awards 2020.
