AIIMS Bhubaneswar Convocation: AIIMS Bhubaneswar is all set to celebrate its 6th Convocation Ceremony on 18th July 2026 (Saturday), marking another significant milestone in the Institute’s journey of academic excellence, innovation, and service to the nation. The Institute is honoured to welcome Smt. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, as the Chief Guest for the ceremony. She will confer degrees upon the graduating students and bless them as they embark on their professional careers, informed AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas during a press briefing held today.
The convocation will also be graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Mukesh Mahaling, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Parliamentary Affairs, Electronics & Information Technology, Government of Odisha, and Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Bhubaneswar, Dr. Biswas informed.
A total of 684 students will be awarded degrees during the ceremony. The graduating batch comprises 192 MBBS students, 163 MD/MS students, 60 DM/MCh students, 17 Post-Doctoral Fellows (PDF), 4 PhD scholars, 134 BSc (Hons.) Nursing students, 75 BSc (Hons.) Paramedical students, and 39 MSc Nursing students. In recognition of outstanding academic performance, 61 Gold Medals will be awarded to 32 meritorious students.
The press conference was attended by Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida (Dean, Academic), Dr. Manaswini Mangaraj (Dean, Examination), Dr. Baijayantimala Mishra (Dean, Research), Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Sudipta Ranjan Singh (Registrar), Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar (DDA), Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Giri, Dr. Saubhagya Kumar Jena, and Dr. B B Tripathy.
Further strengthening its commitment to advanced patient care, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has recently approved the establishment of a dedicated Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care Unit (Neonatal Surgical ICU) under the Department of Pediatric Surgery, marking a major milestone in the care of newborns requiring complex surgical treatment. The new unit will provide specialized preoperative stabilization, postoperative intensive care, and comprehensive multidisciplinary management for critically ill new-borns with congenital and acquired surgical conditions, particularly those referred from outside the Institute.
The initiative is expected to improve access to advanced neonatal surgical care, reduce avoidable referrals, and enhance survival and clinical outcomes. The Neonatal Surgical ICU will also significantly strengthen postgraduate teaching, hands-on training of resident doctors, and clinical research in neonatal surgery and critical care, further reinforcing AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s role as a leading tertiary referral centre for Eastern India
