Drones to Fly on Chilika: Drone cameras will fly in Chilika Lake. The reason is that this hi-tech system is designed to control the migratory birds hunting. This year, Odisha wildlife department has taken such strict measures to prevent bird poaching during the winter season in Chilika. Wildlife DFO of Chilika Amlan Naik informed about this.
More migratory birds are likely to arrive in Chilika Lake this year and 59 species of migratory birds have already arrived in Chilika Lake since October 1, said Mr. Naik, DFO, Chilika. This year, drone cameras will patrol the area and alert bird poachers. There will be zero tolerance for the protection of migratory birds, he said.
Like birds, these drones will also fly in the sky of Chilika to keep an eye on the hunters from the sky. The DFO said drones have been successful in tracking down criminals who set fires in cane fields in Chilika Lake last summer, so the decision to deploy drones in bird protection has been made.
Like every year, this year a total of 21 camps have been set up in Chilika Wildlife Range and patrolling will be done in each camp, especially during the winter season as the bird hunting rate is high during this time. A number of sensitive areas have also been identified. Flag marches will also be conducted in each area where the risk of bird poaching is high.
Drones are planned to be used along the coast of Chilika so that the drones do not cause harm to the birds during their flight. DFO Mr Naik has requested tourists not to feed migratory birds. He said that food may cause diseases to the birds and cause a lot of damage. Along with this, DFO Mr. Naik has requested the Motor Boat Association to take passengers as per the rules.
