Former MLA Bijay Mohanty passed away on Sunday. He was 60 years old at the time of his death. He was declared dead at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, the exact cause of his death has not yet been determined.
As per available information, Bijay Mohanty was staying at a guest house in Bhubaneswar, where he was found unconscious. Subsequently, he was admitted to the Capital Hospital. After medical examination, the doctors declared him dead.
The authorities at Capital Hospital stated that Bijay Mohanty was brought to the hospital in a deceased state. Hence, as per protocol, a post-mortem will be conducted. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report is released. On the other hand, it has come to light that Bijay Mohanty had been suffering from heart disease for some time.
Bijay Mohanty was elected twice as an MLA on a BJD ticket. He won the Assembly elections from the Bhubaneswar Central constituency in 2009 and 2014. However, the party did not offer him a ticket after that. He was unmarried.
The news of Bijay Mohanty’s demise has led to expressions of grief from leaders of various parties. Upon hearing the news, BJD leader and Bhubaneswar North MLA Sushant Kumar Rout, BJP leader and Bhubaneswar Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, former MLAs Sanjay Das Burma and Priyadarshi Mishra, among others, visited the Capital Hospital to pay their last respects to the departed leader.
