New Delhi: The latest to take over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media accounts is Kalaveti Devi, a lady mason. She is a driving force behind reducing open defecation in the district of Kanpur. She is responsible for building more than 4000 toilets in villages in and around Kanpur.
Introducing herself through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle, she tweeted in Hindi: “The place where I used to live was a living hell. But there was a strong belief that through cleanliness we can change this situation. I decided to convince people and collect money for constructing toilets. Eventually, I succeeded.”
She added that hygiene is essential for staying healthy. She narrated, “It took some time to make people aware. But I knew that if people would understand, then the work would progress. My ambition was fulfilled, my attempt at attaining cleanliness was successful. We have succeeded in building thousands of toilets.”
Her indomitable spirit did not shake despite being a single earner in the family, taking care of her elder daughter and her two grandchildren after the untimely death of her husband and son-in-law.
“My message to the country’s sister, daughter and daughter-in-law is that sincere efforts to take society forward never fail,” Kalavati Devi said.
In an inspiring message, she urged, “So go out. If someone speaks foul of you, let them do it. If you want to achieve your goal, then do not look back.”
