JSW Steel, Odisha mining division earned top honors with two Overall Performance awards during the grand finale of the 42nd Annual Mines Safety Week–2024 (AMSWC). The prestigious event was organized under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region on Sunday.
The Ganua Iron Ore Mine emerged as the Overall Performance Winner in the B-4 category, citing its excellence in mine safety protocols and implementation. The Narayanposhi Iron Ore and Manganese Mine followed suit, earning the second prize in Overall Performance of the B-1 category for maintaining high standards in operational safety.
The awards were presented to Shri Ram Shankar Sharma, Head of Operations and Projects, and Shri Vijay Kumar, Head of Environment, Health & Safety, along with their committed team members including mine managers Shri Arundeep Bhattacharjee and Shri Tapan Rath.
Speaking on the achievement, Shri Sharma emphasized the company’s unwavering dedication to safety: “We uphold a strong safety culture rooted in adherence to protocols and continuous improvement. Our aim is to prevent accidents and protect every individual working in our operations. We remain steadfast in our zero-harm mission.”
Mines Safety Week is commemorated annually across all regions in India with the goal of promoting safe practices, reducing mine-related accidents, and encouraging mine owners and workers to embrace a culture of safety by DGMS.
Earlier in the day, dignitaries toured safety-themed exhibits presented by leading mining companies, including Tata Steel, JSW, Jindal Steel & Power, Odisha Mining Corporation, Vedanta, and various vendor partners, showcasing innovative equipment and protocols to enhance workplace safety.
