Man Sells Newborn Son

Man Sells Newborn Son:  A disturbing incident has come to light from Hadmaud village in Odisha’s Balasore district, where a man allegedly sold his newborn son for Rs 60,000 and used the money to purchase a motorcycle.

The incident involves Dharmu Behera, a resident of Podapoda village in Mayurbhanj district and his wife, Shanti Behera. Shanti, who had a son from her previous marriage, gave birth to a second boy after marrying Dharmu.

On December 19, Shanti was admitted to PRM Medical College in Baripada, where she delivered a baby boy. She was discharged from the hospital on December 22. It is alleged that shortly after, Dharmu sold the newborn to a childless couple from Sainkula in Mayurbhanj, with the help of two middlemen.

The situation became suspicious when Dharmu used the money from the sale to buy a motorcycle and began riding it around the village. Locals raised concerns, leading to an investigation by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Following the inquiry, the CWC, along with Basta police, managed to rescue the baby from the couple who had purchased him. Both families involved have been summoned for further investigation.

Shanti, the infant’s mother, denied the allegations, stating that she gave the child to the couple because she was unable to care for him.

“The baby is safe and is currently in the custody of the Child Welfare Committee,” confirmed a CWC official.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many questioning the ethical and legal ramifications of such an act. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the crime and hold those responsible accountable.
