It is all in good spirit and people’s welfare in focus that the government of Odisha has decided to implement ‘One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC)’ system to plug the leaks in the Public Distribution System( PDS) and ensure a fool-proof delivery of rations.
Although the slogan reminisce that of Modi-led government at the central level, Naveen Patnaik government has in time risen to the occasion to streamline the PDS.
The capital city Bhubaneswar has been chosen as the pilot city for implementation of the ONORC and then take it forward to other places in the state.
Choice lies with the beneficiary from where he or she wants to pick up the ration.
This has been stated by the Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain that the card shall enjoy an inter-state portability making it easy for people to avail their quota wherever they are.
The initiative shall be brought into effect from September 1 and accordingly for about 34.52 lakh people not having Adhar links the ministry has instructed the District Collectors to ensure their bio-metric Adhar links by the end of August. The new system aims to check the cases of bogus practices of getting PDS items with fake cards.
