Chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s humble gesture towards the family that set a Samaritan example making the state’s first cadaveric kidney transplantation possible was really encouraging.
Coming as it did, from none other than the family of Pryanka Patra, the brain-dead 25 year old cadaver donor, Patnaik described, and rightly so, as a “great sacrifice” .
It was not the gesture but the sacrifice in the long run goes to save the life of a patient who got a new life through the transplantation done at the premier medical institution of the state, the SCB Medical College and Hospital.
A precedence that must encourage promoting such spirits those come rarely.
The chief minister has also announced that the family of Priyanka will be felicitated under the Suraj scheme and besides the state government will bear the entire expenses of the daughter of Priyanka who is undergoing treatment at the Apollo hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Last but not the least, the chief minister showed his deep appreciation and congratulated the team of doctors at the SCB who have made the painstaking effort to make the transplantation successful. Who really deserve the applaud to have made it possible.
