Shimla, Jan 26 (IANS) Facing extreme freezing temperatures, people in Himachal Pradesh’s remote Kaza town in the Spiti Valley celebrated India’s 71st Republic Day.
The district administration hoisted the national flag at an altitude of 3,720 metre with temperature nearing minus 10 degrees Celsius.
Sub-divisional Magistrate Jeevan Singh Negi hoisted the national flag and took the salute from the marching contingents of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Indian Army, the police and the Home Guards.
Students of local Government Senior Secondary School performed a patriotic programme.
Subedar Ringjing Dorje, Capt C.N. Bodh, Border Roads Organisation engineer Rajinder Singh and state Public Works Department official Tashi Bodh were among those honoured.
Kaza is some 350 km from the state capital Shimla.
