Traditional Biyanaam: In a remarkable cultural event held at the Raichai Rural Stadium in Demow, Sivasagar district, 9,999 women performed the traditional Assamese Biyanaam together, wearing matching traditional attire. Their effort earned a place in the Assam Book of Records.
The event was organised by the Surujmukhi Samannayita Mahila Samaj with support from Demow Samannayita Nari Samaj. All the women wore traditional mekhala chador made of Assamese silk and adorned themselves with traditional Assamese jewellery.
As the rhythmic sounds of Biyanaam and Uruli filled the air, the entire playground came alive with cultural vibrancy. The initiative aimed to revive the gradually fading tradition of Biyanaam, which is a customary form of wedding song in Assamese culture.
The organisers stated that the programme was specially planned in collaboration with the Assam Book of Records to honour and preserve this cultural heritage. The participants expressed joy and pride in being part of this memorable occasion.
