Digha to host international business summit in December

Days after inaugurating the grand Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Digha, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said the West Bengal Government will be holding an international business summit there in December.

The tentative dates are December 9 to 13 and the summit will be for business representatives from Asian countries. While announcing this, she said Digha has the potential to become a major business tourism centre.

The convention centre also has a hotel for hosting guests on the same grounds. The idea behind this initiative, according to senior government officials, is to turn Digha into a major seaside business tourism resort in Asia, comparable to similar ones in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Sixty-five hotels are currently in different stages of construction and planning in and around Digha.

A big port is being built in Tajpur. A short distance from Digha is Haldia, one of the major industrial centres of the State. Then, there is the 7-km long Marine Drive being built there by the State Government that will connect Digha, Mandarmani, Tajpur, Shankarpur and Udaipur on a string, facilitating travel and tourism to a large extent.

All these facts provide the recipe for turning Digha into a centre for business tourism and the summit at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in December will mark the beginning of a new and profitable journey.
