The 48th director general Level talks between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will begin on Wednesday at Dhaka.
During the four-day talk, a 10-member delegation of India headed by BSF DG R.K. Mishra along with senior officials of the ministry of external affairs and other law enforcement agencies will meet 24 members of BGB headed by BGB DG General Md Shafeenul Islam, an official statement said in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The first session of the border coordination conference between the BSF and BGB will be held on June 12 at Dhaka and during the conference, senior officers of the BSF and representatives of the MEA and MHA are going to take part in bi-lateral talks.
The conference is being organised to discuss the border related issues and for better coordination between the both border guarding forces.
The talks would focus on trans-border crimes, smuggling of cattle, fake Indian currency note, gold, narcotics and psychotropic substances smuggling.
The conference will also focus on the activities of Indian insurgent groups based in Bangladesh and prevention of illegal migration and human trafficking.
The last BSF-BGB Border Coordination Conference was held on September 3 to September 8 in 2018 at New Delhi. This was the 47th meeting between the chiefs of the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh
The Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities 1975 envisage that there should be frequent contacts between the border authorities of two countries concerned to discuss the matter of immediate administrative concern.
The first meeting of this kind was held on December 2, 1975 when an Indian delegation led by the former BSF DG Ashwini Kumar and the Bangladesh delegation under the leadership of former DG of Bangladesh Rifle which is now BGB met at Kolkata to discuss mutual border problems. Since then, the meetings between DG BSF and DG BGB are being held annually alternatively in India and Bangladesh. (UNI)
