Anganwadis serve country internally like forces on borders: Maneka Gandhi

(UNI) Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi on Monday said here that Anganwadis protect and serve the nation within the boundaries like the defence forces on the borders.

Speaking on the occasion of national awards being conferred upon Aganwadi workers from across the country, Ms Gandhi said that children are the future of the country, hence giving proper nutrition and education will be in the interest of the nation.

‘If Anganwadis discharge their duties properly, it automatically contributes in making the country prosperous’, said Ms Gandhi while speaking to reporters.

Since, their role is very crucial for the proper development of the country, acknowledging and appreciating their work is equally important to encourage them, the Minister added.

Ms Gandhi said that recently there have been developments and improvement in the Anganwadi system in terms of infrastructure, salaries, and facilities like insurance being taken care of.

More than 90 Anganwadi workers were awarded for their contributions and efforts for the children.

Ms Gandhi, congratulating the workers said that they are the backbone for the delivery of services under the programme and ensuring quality and regularity in the state is very essential.
