Article 15, a hard hitting movie starring Ayushmann Khurrana, has won the the Audience Award at the 10th edition of London Indian Film Festival (LIFF).
The film directed by Anubhav Sinha was also the opening film of the FIFF, Europe’s largest South Asian film festival, on June 20. The film was chosen for the Audience Award on June 29.
The FIFF is supported by Bagri Foundation and British Film Institute (BFI). “Finally we would like to say a huge congratulations to the Director of our opening night film ‘Article 15’ @anubhavsinha which won this year’s Audience Award. The film starring @ayushmannk is out so be sure to catch it at the cinema,” Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival tweeted.
The film, having a hard-hitting storyline, reminds people that Article 15 of the Constitution of India prohibits all kinds of discrimination in the name of caste, creed, religion, gender, race and place of birth, but is violated with impunity by powerful people. The film has already touching the right chord with all the audience. Inspired by true incidents of atrocities on Dalits, the film brings out the thought-provoking reality of society to the screens with its thrilling investigative drama backdrop.
Ecstatic about the overwhelming response at the LIFF director Anubhav Sinha said: ”I am so happy that the film actually connected with Indians abroad and with non-Indians alike, who are not facing this version of inequality on a daily basis.”
Released on June 28, Article 15 is doing extremely well at the box office despite heavy rains and cricket match. At the end of the day four, collection stands at Rs.24.01 crore at the box office.
The thriller features Ayushmann Khurrana in a never-seen-before cop avatar with a heroic element to the character. With a no-nonsense appearance, the character has already become a hit among the audience with a realistic portrayal. The cast also includes Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta and Isha Talwar in important roles.
Before Article 15, Anubhav Sinha had made another hard hitting acclaimed film, Mulk, starring Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu.
