The makers of ‘83 on Saturday unveiled the first look of Ranveer Singh who is looking every bit like the legendary Kapil Dev.
Ever since the makers of the film ‘83 announced the movie which will make the nation relive the victory of India’s iconic win in 1983 World Cup, the audience has been excited to witness the cricket extravaganza on the screens.
Telling us about the process that the team underwent, Director Kabir Khan shared,
“For me, the moment I started working on ‘83, I realised, it was only Ranveer Singh who could play the character of Kapil Dev. He possesses the physicality that is required and also, Ranveer has the discipline that an actor needs to be able to portray a legend like Kapil Dev. There is a lot of training involved as a cricketer and I knew only Ranveer would be able to pull it off with his level of dedication that he has always put in.”
“As far as his look is concerned, it was a very difficult one because we didn’t want to get into prosthetics because in sports, you have to play all day long under the sun. Prosthetics would have made it very difficult. So, we knew we had to get a few key elements right to put the real picture across for the audience. It was a long process; about two months of different drafts. About eight day-long sessions and finally we were able to transform Ranveer into Kapil”, the director further added.
The whole cast has been training at Dharamshala with the rest of the team and has been shooting in London for the last couple of weeks with the real team of 1983.
From the coach, the players to the Captain, the makers have brought everyone together to get the nuances of 1983 team and game right.
Telling us how Kapil Dev reacted to Ranveer’s first look, Kabir said, “Ranveer and I were extremely excited to show the look to Kapil sir and when we showed it to him; he got very excited and was pleasantly surprised. In fact, we were at his home in Sundar Nagar in Delhi and there were a lot of people over and I remember him grabbing my phone and saying, Okay give me the phone and he went around to tell all his friends and relatives and what he said really made our day. Dekho yeh Ranveer bilkul meri tarah lag Raha Hai, with a glee and so, he was very happy with it, you know.”
Tracing the historic victory of 1983 world cup, Kabir Khan’s upcoming directorial is being presented by Reliance Entertainment and will star Ranveer Singh as the former captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Kapil Dev.
