West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said the State Government has made the treatment of all types of cancer completely free in state-run hospitals.
Taking to her Twitter handle on the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month beginning today,. she said, ” Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins today. From 2015, our Govt in #Bangla has made the treatment of all types of cancer completely free in state-run hospitals. ”
” The service includes free medicine, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and free beds in all Govt hospitals, ” she added.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.
In another Tweet on the occasion National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, Banerjee said, ” Today is National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. Donating blood is a noble deed. ” ” Both the #Bangla Government and @aitcofficial , regularly organise blood donation camps across the State, ” she stated.
On this eve , step by Mamata Banerjee, it is expected that few other states can follow suit and allow such benefits to patients. Particularly, in states like Bihar and Odisha where economically backward population cannot afford treatments of such diseases like cancer, free medical treatment can really play a Samaritan role.
