‘Modi has given up on economy, banking on Manmohan Singh for help’: Congress

Panaji, Nov 14 (UNI) The Congress in Goa on Thursday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given up on economic front and was banking on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s expertise to revive the slowing down economy.

Speaking to reporters in the city, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said,’ Right now it is difficult to revive economy and world economists have already expressed concerns about where the Indian economy is heading. It looks like Prime Minister Modi has given up.

That is why they have roped in Manmohan Singh. Narendra Modi does not follow anybody’s advice. Even demonetisation was done without taking the Reserve Bank of India into confidence. If we have such a PM who ignores the advice of experts and pushes his own agenda as far as economy is concerned, then no one can prevent the economy from sinking.”

Comments of the Congress leader have come three days after Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu appointed Dr Manmohan Singh, a Rajya Sabha Member, to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance. Dr Singh, a renowned economist, was appoinnted to the committee in place of party colleague Digvijaya Singh who had been nominated to Parliamentary Standing Committee on urban development.
