It has hit dot on target if seen in hindsight the developments in last two days what must be going within the Pakistani power corridors. There was a cause for panic, and more so after the concern raised by the United Nations Security Council followed by the angry jibes from the American Prasident, Donald Trump.
Trump has minced no words to fire a diplomatic salvo at Pakistan underlining the developments post Pulwama incident.
Watching closely the diplomatic initiatives mulled by the Indian authorities and the support pouring in from various quarters, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s veiled threats aimed at India over any presumptive retaliation now seem singed by the heat of isolation Pakistan foresees in the days to come.
Virtually pressing a panic button Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has written a letter to the UNSC president Francisco Antonio Cortorreal and drew attention to the ‘deteriorating security situation’ in the region resulting from the Indian threats of use of ‘force against Pakistan’. “The situation poses a threat to international peace and security….It is clear that India is making the attempt to present its fallacious assumptions as established facts, seek to cover up its own operational and policy failures, and shift the blame to Pakistan,” Qureshi said in his letter, a soft of copy of which has been made available in Delhi.
But going by the chronology of events in last few days post Pulwama killings, India has never resorted to any threatening military recourse nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his reactions hinted at any attack on Pakistan.
Modi had simply alluded at bitter outcomes of such a criminal acts like unprovoked terror tactics adopted by JeM killing 44 jawans in Pulwama.
The Pakistan foreign minister further said that he has already ‘apprised’ the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres of the serious situation and underlined that the United Nations “must step into defuse the current tensions”.
“It is with a sense of urgency that I draw your attention to the deteriorating security situation in our region resulting from Indian belligerence and threats of use of force against Pakistan,” he wrote.
Qureshi further said: “Ffor domestic political reasons, India has deliberately ratcheted up hostile rhetoric against Pakistan and created a tense environment.”
He also accused that Prime Minister Modi in several public statements has threatened a “befitting response”.
Here again the Pakistani establishment is on the wrong foot when it said that the PM Modi tried to threaten that India is mulling military option. And Pakistan must bear in mind that, any head of the country can not be expected to keep silent when terror outfit with Pakistani moorings can perpetuate such a barbarous act in Pulwama. Befitting answer must not connote military adventure.
