PM Modi’s Five Nation Visit Aims to Expand India’s Global South Footprint

PM Modi’s Five Nation Visit

PM Modi’s Five Nation Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today embarked on a significant five-nation tour spanning Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia from 2 to 9 July 2025. The high-level diplomatic visit aims to bolster India’s engagement with the Global South and enhance strategic partnerships across continents.

Ghana (July 2–3)

At the invitation of President H.E. John Dramani Mahama, PM Modi will visit Ghana from 2 to 3 July. Calling Ghana a valued partner in the Global South, the Prime Minister highlighted its pivotal role in the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The agenda includes discussions on investment, energy, health, security, and capacity building. PM Modi is also scheduled to address the Parliament of Ghana, underlining the shared democratic ethos of the two nations.

Trinidad & Tobago (July 3–4)

On 3–4 July, PM Modi will be in Trinidad & Tobago, strengthening historical and cultural ties rooted in a 180-year-old Indian diaspora. He will meet President H.E. Christine Carla Kangaloo, Chief Guest at this year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, and Prime Minister H.E. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, recently re-elected to office. The visit aims to rejuvenate people-to-people connections and enhance bilateral cooperation.

Argentina (July 5)

In a historic first in nearly six decades, PM Modi will undertake a bilateral visit to Argentina on July 5, marking the first by an Indian Prime Minister since 1968. PM Modi will meet President H.E. Javier Milei, with whom he had earlier met in 2024. Discussions will centre on trade, agriculture, critical minerals, energy, tourism, and technology. Argentina is a key partner for India in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20.

Brazil (July 6–7)

The Prime Minister will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 6–7 July, reaffirming India’s commitment to multilateral cooperation among emerging economies. PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines. Post summit, he will travel to Brasilia for a State Visit, the first by an Indian PM in nearly 60 years, where he will engage with President H.E. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to further the agenda of the Global South.

Namibia (July 8–9)

The final leg of the tour will be in Namibia from 8–9 July, where PM Modi will meet President H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. The visit underscores India’s historic solidarity with Namibia’s anti-colonial struggle and aims to chart a new roadmap for development cooperation. PM Modi will also address a Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament, celebrating shared values of freedom and development.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visit will reinforce bonds of friendship, strengthen South-South cooperation, and deepen India’s multilateral engagements with key regional groupings such as BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS, and CARICOM.
