Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lead the Goa BJP into the 2022 state Assembly polls, state Bharatiya Janata Party President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the ruling party’s state executive in Mapusa town near here, Tanavade said that poll training of the party’s workers would begin from October 2022.
“Election is the objective of any political party. With the support of the people and hardwork of the party workers, BJP in 2022 under the leadership of Pramod Sawant will win with an absolute majority. I can say this confidently,” Tanavade told reporters.
“Those who claim that the BJP will be reduced to single digit in the coming elections, those who criticise the government without stepping out of their homes will be reduced to single digit in the coming elections,” the state BJP President also said.
He also said that Sawant had put in exhaustive efforts, even during the period when the Chief Minister was in home quarantine for 17 days, after he tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month.
“The Chief Minister worked tirelessly despite being Covid-19 positive. He was in home isolation for 17 days, but he continued to work,” Tanavade said.
Sawant was appointed the Chief Minister in 2019, after the death of his predecessor Manohar Parrikar.
At the meeting of the state executive, the members also passed a resolution formally congratulating the Sawant-led administration for playing a pro-active role in containing the pandemic.
“This state executive congratulates the Pramod Sawant-led government for being proactive and committed to the welfare and well-being of Goans. It also congratulates all the frontline Covid warriors — doctors, nurses, para-medical staff, police and other administrative workers — for their relentless efforts in fighting the global pandemic,” the resolution read.
