About 25 people on board a passenger bus travelling from Balasore to Bhubaneswar on Sunday was one of the many such incidents taking place on this route. Lucky that the incident didn’t turn more fatal.

In fact, the news about road accidents  mainly on this patch of the National Highway-16 are so frequent and so similar in nature those are mainly the results of recklessness on the part of the people involved.

What is evident that, many of such accidents were outcomes of late night plying of such passenger buses and more evidently, quit a few of them taking place due to the drivers’ weaknesses like sleeplessness and recklessness too.

An overall record of incidents on NH-16 reveal that, in last two and half years there have been about 962 deaths due to road accidents on this route.

What is all the more confusing is that, why the authorities related to road safety in the traffic department are unable to prevail upon the system that regulates the movement of vehicles mainly carrying passengers at late hours.

What the new traffic rules being enforced from March 1, it must include the vigil of bouncing upon the commuters inside the cities and towns and, ensure that, the regulation of traffic on the High Ways are equally essential which takes heavy tolls.
