Expressing confidence about the triumph of the Congress led opposition alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said his party has dismantled Modi’s ideology and protected institutions of this country from ‘Modi and the RSS’.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Gandhi expressed confidence that a secular alliance will win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Rahul said that the Congress party has dismantled Modi’s ideology. He said: “Congress dismantled Modi’s ideology. Our party raised issues related to farmers. We introduced NYAY scheme. Our strategy two years back was to systematically close doors that Modi could open. We have closed 90 per cent of his doors and he closed 10 per cent himself. We have fought the BJP, and we have protected the institutions of this country from Modi and RSS. We have done our work. The rest depends on the people of the nation.”
Gandhi said that the verdict of the people would be revealed on May 23, following which the Congress party would take a decision about forming the government.
While expressing confidence that the BJP would be defeated in the polls, he said, ”I am not going to prejudge election results. The “people’s vision” for the country will be clear on May 23 when election results will be declared.”
Gandhi said he did not see people like BSP chief Mayawati, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav support the BJP led by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. “A secular alliance will win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
Charging the Election Commission with acting in a partial manner, the Congress president said: “I don’t like saying this, but the role of the Election Commission in this election has been biased. The PM says whatever he wants. There is partiality. The schedule of the entire poll has been made for Modi’s campaigning,” said Gandhi, adding that despite all this “truth will win.”
While praising PM Modi for holding his “first-ever” press conference in five years, Rahul , however , said he would have liked to see Modi actually take on the challenge in 2014.
“I would have liked to see Narendra Modi actually take on the challenge in 2014. With all due respect, he lost sight of the real picture. He forgot the Indian people had not put him as the Prime Minister to just give speeches,” said Rahul.
Responding to Modi’s remark calling Rajiv Gandhi “Corrupt No 1”, Rahul said he will respond to every hate the prime minister throws with love. “Whatever hate PM Modi throws at me, I will reply with love. If PM Modi’s mother and father, who are not in politics, have done anything wrong, I will never speak ill about them,” said Rahul. (UNI)
