The 14-month-old JD(S)-Congress coalition government lost the Confidence Motion in the Karnataka Assembly, by a margin of six votes when it put it for floor test by the Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar tonight paving the wake for formation of a BJP government, again, in the state.
The Confidence motion, which was put to vote after a marathon-debate for four days, resulted in the government got defeated after it received just 99 votes, excluding the Speaker in its favor, against 105 for the BJP, during the floor test.
The voting witnessed as many as 18 members abstaining from voting, including two independents. This included 15 from the ruling JD(S)-Congress members including 15 rebel MLAs the lone member of the Bahujana Samaja Party member did not attend the house.
While all the 105 BJP members who were present in the house had voted against the motion, the ruling Congress and the JD(S) combine could garner only 99 votes from the ruling JD(S)-Congress combine.
The BSP candidate, N Mahesh, had abstained from voting in the house, despite a direction from the party Supremo Mayavathi to vote in favor of the Coalition government.
Earlier, speaking on the motion, Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy had criticised the BJP, for engineering the defection from both the Congress and the JD(S) and said that “The BJP leaders had thrown all democratic values to the wind to get the power”.
Coming down heavily against the rebel MLAs, he said that “The coalition government was formed on certain principles and protect the interests of all sections in the society”.
Chief Minister, in his address in the house, had also highlighted the achievements and performances of his 14-month-old government and said that “the coalition government had spent over Rs 25000 crores towards disbursement of the farm loans in the state”.
Informing that the state government had maintained balance in disbursement of the developmental funds to all the regions in the state, he said that “For the development of the Bangalore city, we had worked out a budgetary plan of over Rs 1,25000 crores”.
He had also mentioned about the implementation of the long pending Auradkar Committee report on the welfare of the Police personnel in the state.
“I had also continued all the schemes and programmes inherited by the previous Congress government” to maintain the ‘Coalition Dharma” he said.
The outgoing Chief minister, before concluding his parting speech had said that “I have no any regrets in demitting the office”.
