Days after coming to power with a landslide victory, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy seem to have focused on demolishing structures built by Naidu government.

This week the Capital Region Development Authority of Andhra Pradesh demolished Praja Vedika conference hall, which was built at a cost of Rs.9 crore by Naidu-led government adjacent to former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence, to hold government and party programmes saying that it was “illegal” structure. The CRDA has also served notice to demolish the river-front residence of Naidu, stating that the house was constructed unauthorisedly and asked him to respond by a week.

Naidu’s Telugu Desham Party, which was routed in the assembly election, alleges that Jagan Mohan was being vindictive towards Naidu.

However, help has come to beleaguered Naidu from several farmers who came forward not only to offer land to construct a house in capital region itself but also to construct the house for Naidu with their own money.

A large number of farmers, including those, who parted with their lands for the construction of capital city Amaravati met Chandrababu Naidu at his residence at Undavalli in Amaravati on Friday night. They were led by former Telugu Desham Party MLA T. Shrevan Kumar

The farmers, including women, told Naidu that they are ready to give him land to construct a house in the capital region villages itself. “We have given 33,000 acres of land for the construction of capital city Amaravati. Can’t we give you 3,300 square yards of land to construct a house?” they told him.

Interestingly, some farmers announced that they would bear the expenditure of the construction of house for Naidu in their village. “Decide at which village in the capital region you want live in. We will construct a house for you with our money,” they told him.

The farmers, who parted with their lands for Amaravati construction, told Naidu that the brand image of Amaravati would be damaged without Naidu.

Naidu told them that he understood their pain and agony. “My government had given you lucrative package for your lands. I will oppose the present government’s move for doing injustice to you,” he promised them.

Naidu reminded them the Harward University has taken the “Land Pooling Scheme”, under which the lands were taken from the farmers for the construction of Amarvati by his government, as subject for study.
