Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that he will stay in his Lok Sabha constituency Wayanad for the next few days as it is worst flood affected district in Kerala where 57 lives have been lost so far.
‘For the next few days I will be based in my Lok Sabha constituency, Wayanad that has been ravaged by floods. I will be visiting relief camps across Wayanad and reviewing relief measures with District & State officials,’ Mr Gandhi said in a tweet .
As heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Kerala, the rain-related death toll rose to 57 with over 1,65,519 people from 46,400 families being shifted to 1,318 relief camps in the State.
According to the official sources, 10 people died in Waynad district, 19 in Malappuram,14 in Kozhikode, 5 in Kannur, 4 in Idukki district, 3 in Thrissur and 2 in Alappuzha in the rain related incidents for the last three days.
Minor but repeated landslides at Kavalapara in Nilambur have forced the rescue teams on Saturday evening to abandon search and rescue operations for those who have been trapped beneath the soil that caved in on Friday due to a heavy landslide.
