Contrary to SC order, Unnao rape survivor’s mother refuses to shift her to AIIMS, laments delay in justice

Unnao rape survivor’s mother on Friday said they will not take her to All India Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment is rolling along well in King George’s Medical  University in the Uttar Pradesh capital.

The Supreme Court on Thursday transferred all five cases related to the Unnao rape out of Uttar Pradesh to the national capital. The Apex Court asked for the transfer of the rape victim from the present hospital to AIIMS in Delhi after consulting the victim’s family. Condition of both — the victim and her laywer Mahendra Singh — was stated to be stable but still not out of danger.

Doctors attending on them claimed that the condition of both the injured is stable.
Though first, the family said that they will now shift to Delhi, but in a sudden change of mind on Friday, mother of the survivor said that they will stay in Lucknow and fight to see that the BJP MLA gets punished.

“We are not interested in going to Delhi as my daughter is getting good treatment here at the King George Medical College. But if the doctors here recommend for shifting to AIIMS, then the matter is different,” she told reporters.

“The act of the Supreme Court has given us a hope that we will get justice and I thank all those who rallied behind us in our difficult times,” she said. She said that the action against the rape accused legislator should have been taken earlier.” Why they took such a long time to take action is a big question,” she said.

On late Thursday night, the security of the victim and her lawyer family was handed over to the CRPF, replacing UP police.  Lucknow District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma also handed over Rs 25 lakh cheque to the victim’s family as directed by the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, the CBI has speed up its investigation in the rape as well as in the Rae Bareli accident case as SC has directed the agency to complete the rape trial within 45 days and the accident case in a week. The CBI has recorded statements of all the eye-witnesses, truck driver and cleaner. It will now record the statements of the ten named accused in the accident including that of the MLA jailed in the Sitapur district jail.
The rape victim and her lawyer were injured while two of her aunts were killed in the accident in Rae Bareli on Sunday last. One of her aunt was a key witness in the rape case. The agency has also summoned all the policemen posted at the Makhi police station in Unnao, where the gangrape was done in April, 2017.

The policemen and officials posted at Makhi police station between 2017 to 2018 have been summoned to Lucknow by the CBI for recording their statements. A CBI team also spoke to the mother of the victim for over 90 minutes late last night.  (UNI)
