The Odisha government on Wednesday cancelled the leave of all government employees, doctors, para medical staff and police personnel across the state in view of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani heading towards the coast to make land fall on May 3 next.
The district collectors have asked the employees not to leave the headquarter and those on leave asked to join the duty immediately.
The Odisha government has already assigned 12 senior IAS officers to supervise relief, rescue and restoration operation in cyclone Fani hit districts.
Odisha director general of police R.P. Sharma ordered that the leave of all kinds from constabulary to IPS officers have been cancelled and those who are on leave are being recalled to resume duty immediately.
The health department has cancelled the leave application of all doctors and para medical staff till May 15 and asked the doctors and para medical staff on leave to immediately join their duty.
The state government ordered closure of all educational institutions from tomorrow till further orders and asked the educational institutions to reschedule their examination.
The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) today postponed the examinations in 164 colleges under it scheduled to be held on May 2, May 3 and May 4 to May 25, 27 and 28 next.
Nandan Kanan Zoo deputy director Jayant Das said the zoo would remain closed from May 2 to May 4 for the safety of the tourists in view of the cyclonic storm Fani.
The Paradip Port Trust authority also suspended all operation of ships in the port and asked all the ships to reposition in view of the cyclonic storm hitting the coast on May 3.
