Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday issued ‘lookout’ notice against former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram when the probe agency could not locate him.
The central financial probe agency move comes after the rejection of bail plea by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. ED is investigating the INX media case in which Mr Chidamabarm is being questioned.
Both CBI and ED have been trying to locate Mr Chidambaram since Tuesday when the Delhi High Court rejected his plea to extend protection against arrest by these two agencies. The CBI also, meanwhile, continues its efforts to locate Mr Chidambaram even as the former Union Finance Minister’s legal team asked the agency not to take any coercive action against him.
The lookout notice was first issued in 2018 and he was directed not to leave the country without High Court’s permission. Meanwhile, both CBI and ED have filed a caveat in the apex court in the petition filed by Mr Chidambaram seeking protection from the arrest. The Supreme Court is yet to hear his application for bail.
