Final Assam NRC list out, 19 lakh applicants excluded

The final and updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) list for Assam was published on Saturday, with names of over 19 lakh applicants left out. Out of over 3.30 crore original applicants, names of more than 3.11 crore people have been included in the final NRC. “….it has been found that a total of 3,11,21,004 numbers of persons are found eligible for inclusion in Final NRC leaving out 19,06,657 numbers of persons including those who did not submit Claims,” a press statement by NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela informed here.

After the first draft on December 31, 2017, the Complete Draft) was published on July 30, 2018, wherein 2,89,83,677 numbers of persons were found eligible for inclusion. Another Additional Draft Exclusions List was published on June 26, 2019, wherein 1,02,462 persons were excluded. A total of 3,30,27,661 members applied through 68,37,660 applications. Any person who is not satisfied with the outcome of the claims and objections can file appeal before the Foreigners Tribunals, the NRC state coordinator said.

Prior to the coming out of the NRC list the state had already made a general appeal to the people in general to maintain calm post the list was made public.
