Former Finance Minister of India and a reputed legal luminary Arun Jately has passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness. Jaitely was one of the front line leaders in the Bharatiya Janata Party who has been active in national politics for decades. He was 66.

He was admitted to AIIMs few weeks back and was kept in a ventilator following problem in breathing.

Jaitley, a known lawyer of repute, had also served as the cabinet minister in Atal Behari Vajpayee government heading ministries like Law and I & B.

He was the Finance Minister in Modi cabinet from 2014 to 2019. However, due to health reasons Jaitley had opted not to undertake any ministerial assignment in the present NDA ministry.

It can be said that the BJP has lost two most capable leaders of national stature by the demise of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.
