J&K Guv Malik meets PM, Shah, says EC to decide dates for Assembly polls

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and newly inducted Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“The Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Satya Pal Malik called on the Prime Minister today,” tweeted PMO.

P B Acharya, Governor of Nagaland also called on him here. Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi also met Mr Modi and discussed matters pertaining to the union territory.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor also met Mr Shah and discussed about matters pertaining to his state.

Emerging out of the meet, he said that the Election Commission will decide the date for assembly elections in the northern state.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir is at present under President’s Rule.

Governor Malik also said that he briefed the Home Minister about the security situation prevailing in the state and expressed the view that it was for the poll panel to take a call on holding the assembly polls.

Jammu and Kashmir has been under Governor’s rule since June 2018 when the state plunged into a political crisis after the Mehbooba Mufti-led coalition government was reduced to minority following withdrawal of support by the BJP.

Though parliamentary elections were held in the state, the assembly polls were not held.
