Naveen proposes UN to set up International centre for Disaster Mitigation and Recovery in Bhubaneswar

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has proposed the visiting World bank team to set up an International centre for Disaster Mitigation and Recovery in Odisha.

During an interaction with the officials of the United Nations, World bank, Asian Development Banks and other international agencies at the state secretariat here on Wednesday, Mr.Patnaik said the UN may consider setting up of an International centre for Disaster Mitigation and Recovery at Bhubaneswar .

He said the UN system plays an important role in developing public goods adding that the United Nations University may consider setting up of such an International centre

Such centre, the Chief Minister said would help building upon the expertise Odisha has gained in this sector as well as developing international best practices for use across the world.

Patnaik assured the UN team all possible assistance form the government in establishing the centre in Bhubaneswar.

The Chief Minister laid emphasis on the disaster proofing energy infrastructure,development of resilient communication network and restoration of livelihoods.

He urged the UN team to modify the existing programmes to incorporate some of these activities for early implementation in Odisha.
