No respite for Chidambaram as the apex court declines anticipatory bail in INX case

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram failed to get any reprieve from the Supreme Court even till 1200 hours Wednesday, as Justice N V Ramana refused to hear the urgent mentioning in the INX media corruption case by a battery of lawyers representing Chidambaram seeking relief for him in the case.

Justice Ramana has sent the file to CJI Ranjan Gogoi to decide on the urgent hearing. He refused to give an urgent hearing in the matter presented by Kapil Sibal, the lawyer for Chidambaram. The apex court rejected Sibal’s plea saying that no coercive action be taken till appeal is heard.

Former Finance Minister, Chidambaram, had moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi HC order cancelling his plea for anticipatory bail. Mr Chidambaram clarified that there is no possibility of him fleeing, tampering with the evidence or influencing witnesses.
